Our Specialties

Imagine a doctor who cares about helping you find management solutions for the ringing in your ears…

Although there isn’t a single cure for tinnitus, our team works with you to determine the best course of action to minimize the internal sounds.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a medical condition in which an individual hears persistent noises in one or both ears. It can sound like ringing, buzzing, hissing, whooshing, or pulsing. It can be intermittent or constant, and the effects range from slight annoyance to severe disruptions of daily life.

What causes Tinnitus?

While the exact physiological cause of tinnitus is unknown, there are several likely causes:

  • hearing loss
  • noise exposure
  • head and neck trauma
  • certain types of tumors
  • cardiovascular disease
  • ototoxicity
  • hypo- or hyperthyroidism
  • high or low blood pressure
  • and more…

How do you evaluate Tinnitus?

We perform a comprehensive tinnitus evaluation that includes pitch matching, minimum masking levels, loudness discomfort levels, and residual inhibition. This, in conjunction with the hearing evaluation, supplemental testing, and medical evaluation by Dr. Holmes, helps determine the cause and best plan of action for treatment and maximum relief.

How do you treat Tinnitus?

Due to the personal and unique nature of tinnitus, treatment is individualized. Although there isn’t a single cure for tinnitus, our team works with you to determine the best course of action to optimize your outcomes. Additionally, Dr. Holmes will work with you on any relevant medical treatments. If you or someone you know is suffering from tinnitus, make an appointment with us today.

I am very grateful to Dr Holmes! A year ago, I had a persistent and recurring ear infection which caused me pain, worries and worse of all tinnitus. My regular doctor kept insisting she didn't even see any inflammation. Dr Holmes saw me right away, gave me the right antibiotics, ran many tests and got to the bottom of it. He is compassionate and thorough. I highly recommend him.
